Friendship After 50: I Don’t Discriminate—I Elevate

Yes, I’m over 50.
Yes, I have friends my age—amazing, beautiful, wise women who understand my life with a single sigh. But let’s be clear: I don’t limit my circle to one generation. I don’t discriminate. I elevate.
Give me older friends with stories that start with “Back in my day…” and end with a cackle. Give me younger friends with fire in their eyes and new ideas that make me say, “Okay, girl—I see you.”
Here’s What I Really Want in a Friend (at Any Age):
Someone who will encourage me when I feel stuck
Uplift me without competing
Tell me the truth (without sugarcoating it in passive-aggressive nonsense)
Push me to the next level—spiritually, emotionally, professionally
Impart wisdom and know how to laugh until we snort
Love God, love people, and love food (In that order)
Is that too much to ask? No. It’s called grown woman standards.
Older Friends? They’re Gold.
They’ve walked the road. They’ve survived heartbreaks, reinventions, menopause, marriages, careers, and comebacks—and they’ve got wisdom for days. But can I just say, I make them laugh. I keep them active. I remind them that this stage of life doesn’t have to be quiet or gray. It can be bold, fun, and fabulous. I show up with humor and a plan. They show up with stories and snacks. It’s a match made in heaven.
Younger Friends? They’re Fire.
They keep me current. They teach me about TikTok. They remind me what it means to dream wildly and unapologetically. But don’t get it twisted—I’m not just here taking notes. I become the big sister they didn’t know they needed. I speak life, share wisdom, and remind them that beauty, strength, and purpose don’t expire.
And At This Stage? I’ve Got Zero Time for Foolishness
I don’t chase energy that doesn’t feel right. I don’t entertain drama. I don’t have the emotional bandwidth for shenanigans. If the vibe is off, if the friendship is one-sided, if I feel drained every time we talk…I move on. Gracefully. Quickly.
Because at this age, my time is precious. My peace is sacred. And my circle? Ride or die only. Woot Woot!
Whether you’re older, younger, or right here in the 50+ sweet spot, just know this:
If you’re real, kind, wise, love to laugh, love God, and love good food—we’re already friends.
Until the next hot flash…
